Renewing Your RSO

The Fall RSO Status Renewal process is open from Monday, August 24th, 2015 through Friday, September 25th!

For your benefit, we have created an easy to understand, step by step walkthrough (with screenshots): RSO Status Renewal Walkthrough.

To renew your group’s status as an RSO, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Have your Advisor complete the 2015-2016 Advisor Agreement Form
  2. Complete your Collegiate Link Registration - screenshots available here.
  3. If you did not do so last year, submit your updated constitution to be in line with the new requirements. See our guide here.
  4. Attend the RSO Symposium held on Saturday, October 3rd (pre-registration is required)

Steps 1-3 need to be completed by Friday, September 25th, and the pre-registration deadline for the Symposium is also the same date at noon.

If you are unsure as to your status, please do not hesitate to contact us at and we will let you know what is left for your group.

If your Primary Contact has changed and they are not available to update your organization’s Roster and assign administrative responsibilities to a new Contact Person, request that your advisor assign the primary contact. A video tutorial is found here.  Your Primary Contact should be an Officer and cannot be your Advisor. If you are transitioning advisors, or experiencing difficulties, please come visit the Campus Activities Center (Union 012) for assistance.

RSO Symposium

The scope of the recognition process for the 2015-16 academic year will be adjusted significantly. There will no longer be several one hour ‘RSO Orientation Sessions’, instead we are pleased to announce our first Student Organization Symposium. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, October 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You must pre-register for this event by noon on Friday, September 25th.

The goal of the symposium is to offer leadership and networking opportunities to student leaders across campus, in addition to providing your organization with the tools and knowledge you need to be a successful RSO at UW.

This symposium is a requirement as part of the renewal recognition process.

RSO Constitution Audit

Because of a recent update in UW Regulation 8-234, the language in the non-discrimination clause in all RSO constitutions need to be revised to be in compliance with University requirements. In accordance with this update, the Campus Activities Center is auditing all constitutions are part of the recognition process. This audit is to ensure RSOs are updating this specific clause and also verify that all other constitution requirements are met, as an audit has not been performed for group constitutions in quite some time. Your President and Advisor should have received notifications about this last semester, and this is a follow up notification reminder. For your guidance, we have developed a Constitution Guideline as well as a sample constitution.

The revised constitutions must be submitted to our office no later than Friday, September 25th. Please submit the constitution as an editable Word document via email to Your constitution will then be assigned to a staff member who will review the document, and as necessary utilize track changes and insert comments where changes need to be made. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our office.

If you have any questions about your organization's status or the renewal process, please contact the Campus Activities Center by e-mail, or call the CAC at 766-6340.
