About the Safe Zone Symbol|Wyoming Union | Safe Zone

The Meaning of the Safe Zone Symbol

Displaying any of the logos below indicates that you are a person who is supportive of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The traditional Safe Zone symbol bears a pink triangle, a reclaimed symbol of positive gay identity, surrounded by a green circle, an international symbol of peace or acceptance. It designates "safe zones" for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals on campus. The Safe Zone symbol sends a message to all LGBTQ individuals that whomever is displaying the symbol is a trustworthy individual who will be understanding and supportive if an individual needs help, advice, or someone with whom to talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Moreover, the logo symbolizes that homophobic and heterosexist attitudes, comments, and actions will not be tolerated, but will be addressed in an educational and informative manner.
