University Studies Program

Articulation Points

The new University Studies Program was implemented in the fall of 2003. The statewide collaborative processes that have been in existence and working for everyone should continue with the implementation of USP 2003. Open communication remains important.

The next issues of the University Catalog, Course Schedules, and the Transfer Guide will distinguish between the USP 1991 list and the USP 2003 approved list of courses.

Students transferring to UW from any Wyoming community college with an associate degree will have met the lower division USP 2003 requirements, except for the second math course. Students transferring into UW from any Wyoming community college without an associate degree will have their transcripts reviewed with the Transfer Guide on a course by course basis.

Students who matriculated before Fall 2003 at any Wyoming community college and then transfer to UW will be allowed to continue under the USP 1991 designations, or they can choose to go to the USP 2003 designations.  Students cannot participate in a combination of programs.

Academic Affairs and UW Outreach School want to encourage all departments to organize statewide articulation meetings in the next year and continue to have them yearly, by providing funding for these meetings. Wyoming community college faculty members are encouraged to attend these meetings.

English held an articulation conference in the fall of 2003. One of the courses for discussion was ENGL 1020, which is taught at every Wyoming community college, but not UW, and receives a W2 designation in USP 1991 when transferred to UW.  ENGL 1020 is being submitted for WB designation in USP 2003.

UW courses, currently approved for one or more USP 1991 categories, that are submitted to the USP 2003 committee and approved, will automatically be approved for the existing equivalent course at a Wyoming community college.

Courses submitted to the University Studies committee should include a thoroughly completed Criteria Review Sheet for each category, and need to have a current syllabus attached to the course approval form. Course syllabi should include clearly identified learning objectives.

Wyoming community college courses which are transferable now and have a USP 1991 designation need to be resubmitted if the Wyoming community college wants a USP 2003 designation.

Existing Math – M1 courses will automatically become a Quantitative Reasoning – QA course. Also, the existing U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions – V1 courses will be grandfathered into the new USP 2003 U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions – V category.
