Competing at the NCAA Division I-A level and as a member of the Mountain West Conference, the Cowboys and Cowgirls regularly contest regional and national powers in basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, swimming, track, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling. UW provides a healthy-minded environment with the Half Acre recreation facilities, Outdoor Programs, UW credit for National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) courses, 19 club sport teams, and 45 intramural sports.
