The University of Wyoming Art Museum will open its new spring exhibitions during a
free public reception Friday, Feb. 1, from 6 - 8 p.m.
The reception will feature the 33rd annual Juried Student Exhibition with cash and
purchase awards at 6:30 p.m. Linny Frickman, director of the Hatton Gallery at Colorado
State University, is the exhibition's juror. The award-winning students will present
an informal gallery walk on Monday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. The program is free and open
to the public.
New exhibitions this spring also include New Art in the Collection, which features
new acquisitions of works by artists Kaarina Kaikkonen, Richard Misrach, Martin Stupich,
Joan Myers, Jody Forster, Neelon Crawford, Stuart Klipper and Debbie Fleming Caffery.
Seven works gifted from the JP Morgan Chase through the Business Committee for the
Arts, Inc.-Association of College and University Museums and Galleries will also be
on view.
Also beginning this spring is the UW Art Department Faculty Exhibition with recent
artwork by new and adjunct faculty. Participating artists are Department Head Ricki
Klages (painting), Ashley Hope Carlisle (sculpture), Mark Ritchie (printmaking), Leah
Hardy (metals), Doug Russell (drawing), Pat Kikut (painting), Shelby Shadwell (drawing),
Diana Baumbach (mixed media), Jenny Venn (graphic design), Margaret K. Haydon (ceramics)
and David Jones (sculpture).
UW Art Department faculty members will conduct an Art Talk in conjunction with the
exhibition Monday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the museum. This event is free and open
to the public.
The American Heritage Center (AHC) is presenting "Hell on Wheels: Union Pacific Railroad
Towns in Wyoming" this spring. The exhibition examines the construction of the railroad
across southern Wyoming during the late 1860s. It includes photographs and excerpts
from letters and diaries found from the AHC collection.
All exhibitions close March 1 to prepare for renovations in the Centennial Complex.
The Art Museum store and the museum's education programs will continue without interruption.
The UW Art Museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 22nd and Willett Drive in
Laramie. The museum is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., with extended
