UW Art Museum Galleries Closing for Renovations

February 27, 2008 — The University of Wyoming Art Museum will close its galleries at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 1, for renovations to the Centennial Complex expected to continue into the fall. A major sculpture exhibition is scheduled at the museum and various community locations beginning in June.

March 1 will be the last day to view the museum's current exhibitions. These include "Recently Acquired: New Art in the Collection," "UW Art Department Faulty Exhibition," "Hell on Wheels: Union Pacific Railroad Towns in Wyoming," and the 33rd Annual Juried University of Wyoming Students Exhibition. A selection from the student exhibition and the recently acquired works will be on display through April 19 in the James T. Forrest Rotunda and the Centennial Complex Gallery near the building's entrance.

Monday night extended hours and classes have been suspended during the closure. However, the museum store will remain open Mondays-Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Education programs will continue with free art classes offered in celebration of "Youth Arts Month" in March. Students ages 4-12 and their parents are invited to explore and create art from 1-3 p.m. on Saturdays March 1, 8, 15 and 29.

The Spring Break Art Camp, "Enter the Artist's Zone," is scheduled for March 17-21 from 1-4:45 p.m. each day. The camp is for students ages 6-14. For more information, call Wendy Bredehoft at (307) 766-3496 or e-mail wbredeho@uwyo.edu.

The UW Art Museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 22nd and Willett Drive. Admission is free.
