The University of Wyoming will host a variety of Earth Day activities next week, highlighted by a two-day symposium on climate change.
The symposium, sponsored by UW's Climate Change Committee (C3), a faculty group that works with the UW Research Office and the Office of the President to coordinate a campus-wide initiative on climate change, will feature a pair of panel discussions and a keynote address.
The third C3 symposium of the academic year is titled "Climate Change and Energy: Local Action." Panel discussions are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in Room 129 of the Classroom Building and noon Thursday, April 24, in the Skylight Lounge of the Wyoming Union.
Scott Kane of Creative Energies, Inc., a Lander-based company that provides alternative energy solutions for homes and businesses, will deliver the keynote presentation Tuesday, April 22, from 7:30-9 p.m. in Room 129 of the Classroom Building.
The symposium is sponsored by the UW Office of the President, School of Energy Resources, Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering and Applied Science, Health Sciences, Agriculture and various UW departments.

-- An environmental fair, featuring The Ozark Country Ramblers, a
local bluegrass/country band, and canvas bag decorating, is Tuesday,
April 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Prexy's Pasture.
-- A free barbecue, sponsored by the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, is
Wednesday, April 23, at 11:30 a.m. in Prexy's Pasture. Wednesday is also
Bike to School/Work Day at UW.
-- The ACRES Student Farm, located at 30th and Harney streets, will host
Global Youth Service Day projects Friday, April 25, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The work day will include a campus-wide clean-up effort. For more

"Earth Day is a reminder that we need to practice sustainability every day in order to provide a healthy planet for future generations," says Sarah Ames, co-president of the UW Students for a Sustainable Environment. "It also provides us with a chance to educate each other on how to change the small things in our daily lives to make our planet better and to celebrate the life of the earth."
Founded in 1970, Earth Day is held each April 22 in the United States to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment.
