Early Childhood Leadership Institute Scheduled at UW

May 27, 2008

The seventh biennial University of Wyoming Early Childhood Leadership Institute will be held July 23-25 at the Wyoming Union.

This institute will provide the opportunity for participants to explore the active and challenging processes of creating safe, trusting environments that nourish children's optimal development, says Margaret Cooney, conference organizer.

"In 1992, the California Association for the Education of Young Children became so concerned about the alarming rise in violence in the lives of young children that they created a committee to address the issue," Cooney says.

"This committee culminated in the creation of the NonViolence in the Lives of Children Project. The project offers training programs and seminars to help educators and others address the issue of violence in the lives of children."

Presenters will discuss how professionals, children and families build successful relationships, solve problems peacefully, and participate in cooperative, diverse and productive environments.

Registration is limited to 120 participants, so early registration is encouraged. For more information about the conference, call Tricia Johnson at (307) 766-4002. To register for the conference, call (307) 766-2124 or 1-877-733-3618 ext. 1.
