The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today (Friday) voted unanimously to increase by $50,000 the salary of UW President Tom Buchanan. His base salary will be $350,000, effective July 1.

"Tom Buchanan continued to demonstrate the qualities and strengths necessary to lead this great university into the future," says UW trustees President Dick Davis. "Under his leadership the university has made advances academically while strengthening its relationships with its many constituencies, not only among faculty, staff, and students; but with the governor's office; the legislature; and the agricultural and business communities."

Davis added the support for UW through generous private gifts from industry sources has created unprecedented research opportunities to raise the university's profile nationally and internationally.

"I'm most pleased by the vote of confidence that the board has placed in my leadership and vision for the university," Buchanan says. "I look forward to continuing to work with my outstanding colleagues to accomplish our goals during this extraordinary time."

Buchanan last year signed a contract extending his presidency through June, 2011. Subsequent annual pay increases will be determined by the Board of Trustees on a year-to-year basis.
