UW Mechanical Engineering Student Selected 2008 Tau Beta Pi Laureate

June 25, 2008 — University of Wyoming mechanical engineering student Eli Krahenbuhl of Cheyenne has been selected as a 2008 laureate of the Tau Beta Pi Association.

He is one of 64 laureates chosen since 1982, and will accept the award at the 2008 Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society convention in Sacramento, Calif., in October.

Krahenbuhl, son of Richard and Betsy Krahenbuhl of Cheyenne, was initiated into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society in April 2007. He remains an active member and tutor and often assists undergraduates in math, engineering, and science classes. In addition, he was a volunteer for the state Math Counts competition at UW last year.

Dedicated to academics, professional cycling and his work, Krahenbuhl has found a balance between studying and his passion of competitive cycling. He has maintained a 4.0 grade point average at UW while working at a local composite materials analysis firm, Firehole Technologies.

A member of the UW cycling team, Krahenbuhl has raced throughout the United States and Canada and participated in more than 25 races, placing sixth at a recent race in Whistler, B.C. He is currently ranked third among 112 professional mountain bikers in the U.S., according to USA Cycling.

Upon graduation he plans to continue his professional cycling career and possibly pursue a master's degree. Although Krahenbuhl is unsure of the career path he would like to take, he says he hopes to find a job performing research and development and the cycling industry suits his current interests.
