UW Art Museum Announces Tour Schedule for Sculpture Exhibition

August 15, 2008 — The University of Wyoming Art Museum will offer free guided tours of "Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational" on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning Aug. 20 and continuing through September.

Tours will begin at the UW Art Museum, located in the Centennial Complex, and include stops at 10 of the 18 sculptures in the exhibition. Tours start at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 2 p.m. Thursdays. Reservations are not required.

"These tours, which are led by trained museum volunteers, are a fun way to learn more about the artists and the sculptures they have created," says Wendy Bredehoft, the art museum's education curator.

Bredehoft suggests tourists wear comfortable shoes and plan to spend about two hours exploring sculptures across the UW campus, including Patrick Dougherty's "Shortcut" and Charles Parson's "Molto Allargando," both of which are installed on Prexy's Pasture.

Group tours can be arranged with 48 hours notice, and self-guided tours will also be available.

A special Community Day for Laramie residents, which will include a tour of all 18 sculptures, is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 4. Bus tours begin at 10 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Seating is limited and reservations are recommended. Call Pam Vaughn at (307) 766-3477 for reservations. Walking tours begin at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. No reservations are required.

"We are excited to offer a special day for Laramie residents to tour the sculptures on temporary view in our community," says Susan Moldenhauer, director and chief curator of the art museum.

"Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational" is being organized by the UW Art Museum, various agencies in the City of Laramie and the Albany County Public Library. The exhibition officially opens with a reception from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at Prexy's Pasture and continues through July 2009.
