The University of Wyoming Mortar Board Chapter was awarded the Ruth Weimer Mount Chapter Excellence Award, the highest possible honor given in chapter achievement.

UW qualified for this national award based on excellence within chapter operations, participation, selections, advising, visibility and communications, says Professor Dave Whitman, chapter adviser. He says Mortar Board members completed their chapter goals and specifically focused on the task of finding and connecting with alumni who previously had no contact with the chapter.

"Mortar Board members hosted a week of events which played into their chapter goals and covered the aspects of scholarship, leadership and service," Whitman says. "Each member carried his or her own weight during the year, remaining extremely active in chapter activities and on campus, while graduating with excellent grades, honors and merits."

Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. It provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community. The UW Cap and Gown chapter was founded in 1933.
