Campus Construction Update for Week of Jan. 11

January 9, 2009

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report:

Information Technology (IT) Center -- The Data Center was successfully moved from the old Ivinson Building during the holiday break. Portions of the new building, including the new Data Center, have been used since Dec. 20. Some punch list work (final items to complete on list after walk through of a project) remains in several locations. The contractors will continue to work on these items during the next few weeks.

Work on the exterior building and landscaping that is incomplete or was added late in the schedule will be completed as the weather permits. The interior signs, furniture, and other owner-provided items are being ordered and will be installed as they arrive.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date: Fall 2010) -- The contractor is painting on the upper level of the existing building, installing gypsum board and metal framing on the lower levels. Exterior windows are being installed on the west side of the building.

At the addition, exterior foundation wall work continues with most of the major segments of the walls completed by the end of the week. The contractor's focus will shift to interior slabs. Structural steel placement is scheduled for the third week in January.

Faculty and staff in the UW College of Business have relocated to Crane Hall because of the renovation project. Go here for a list of the new office locations: www.uwyo.edu/news/showrelease.asp?id=23821

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- Work will continue primarily on the finish of the interior of the addition. The contractor is installing ceiling grids, lighting, wood trim, paint, and carpet, working from the lower levels upper ward. At levels three and four of the 70s addition, the contractor is installing metal framing and gypsum board and utility rough-ins. Student Health/Cheney International Center -- Work resumes on the Cheney Plaza this week. Boulders will continue to be set and benches to be constructed. The front door frame to the Student Health building has arrived and will be installed. The lobby area is under construction and should be completed in a week. Students will continue to enter from the east side of the building until the front door area is finished. Student Health offices and the pharmacy on the first floor have been moved to the second floor. Offices located in the basement will remain at this point in time. Construction continues in the west wing of the vacated first and second floors.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The structural concrete walls are complete and the structural steel, including the roof decking, was installed last week. The construction is mostly dried in. The work in the locker room and corridor was completed successfully during the holiday break. The circulation route is being diverted through the locker room and will remain this way for several weeks. The work in this area has caused the heating system to get out of balance. This problem may not be completely fixable until after the new systems are installed in a few weeks. This week will include concrete slab-on-grade in the large Moot Court classroom, electrical rough-in, interior wall framing, and clerestory framing at the roof.

Centennial Complex -- The acceptance testing of the fire alarm and pre-action fire suppression systems is complete. Interior punch list items will continue over the next two weeks.

UW Police Facility -- The old UniWyo Credit Union on the corner of 15th and Flint will become the new UW Police Facility. Staging for the contractor is in the north parking lot. Interior framing continues along with electrical, mechanical and plumbing rough-ins. Drywall is in progress. The construction completion is scheduled for March 2009.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Classroom Building -- Work on the sanitary sewer system in the west basement mechanical room has been completed.

Corbett Building -- Replacement of the handicap ramp at the east entrance has been postponed until March due to weather considerations.

Anthropology Building -- The parking lot extension is complete, and the lot is open for parking. Irrigation and landscaping will be completed in the spring.
