The Blue Scholars perform Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 8 p.m. in the Wyoming Union ballroom.

The Blue Scholars, a hip-hop duo from Seattle, Wash., will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the University of Wyoming Union ballroom.

The duo was created in 2002 by Sabzi (Saba Mohaieriasbi) the DJ and Geologic (Georege Quibuyen) the MC. The name "Blue Scholars" is a play on the term "blue collar." It comes from workers who often earn meager hourly wages for manual labor. Their music and lyrics focus on struggles between socioeconomic classes, challenging authority and encouraging youth empowerment.

They have performed across the United States and appeared at the Sasquatch Music Festival in 2005, 2006 and 2008, and opened for Kanye West in 2006. The UW performance, part of the Martin Luther King-Days of Dialogue celebration, is co-sponsored by the United Multicultural Council and the Student Activities Council.

Individuals with disabilities needing accommodations to participate can contact Mike Lange at (307) 766-2752 or mlange@uwyo.edu.
