UW Debate Squad Van Rolls Friday Morning

February 28, 2009

Nine members of the University of Wyoming's forensics team were taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie after their van rolled over north of the Colorado line early Friday.

"It turned out the parliamentary squad had been driving carefully and simply hit a patch of black ice," said Matt Stannard, director of forensics in the UW Department of Communication and Journalism.

"Nobody walked away without getting hurt, but everyone, literally, walked away. I am even told our folks were cracking jokes and were generally in good spirits while waiting for the emergency vehicles to arrive," Stannard said. "This does not surprise me, as our team this year has, through both fortune and adversity, been unsinkable and unfailingly optimistic."

An account of the accident, as reported in the Casper Star Tribune, can be found here.
