UW Equestrian Club to Compete at Hunter Seat Regionals

March 13, 2009

The University of Wyoming equestrian club will send at least four contestants into the arena this weekend at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 7, Region 1 Hunter Seat Regionals in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Elizabeth Kinnally (Westwood, N.J.), Lauren Heisel (Story), Stephanie Pruitt (Cheyenne) and Brittany Waltz (Anchorage, Alaska) have already secured spots in the regional event. Two other UW riders -- McCabe Jones (Dillon, Colo.) and Kristen Erickson (Moorhead, Minn.) -- are expected to qualify during Saturday morning's regular-season finale, also at the MM Equestrian Center.

The top regional finishers will advance to the zone competition, set for April 4 at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.

Last weekend, Jones and Katie French (Plymouth, Minn.) starred for UW at the western riding regional finals in Lubbock, Texas, and advanced to one of three national semifinal events later this month.

Heisel and Kristina Maddocks (Hecla, S.D.) also represented UW at the western finals but did not qualify for the March 29 national semifinal in Canyon, Texas.

The top zone (hunter seat) and semifinal (western) scorers from across the nation will advance to the IHSA National Championships April 23-26 at Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
