May 13, 2009

More than 300 junior and senior high school students from across Wyoming plan are scheduled to attend the 10th annual Women in Science - Expanding Your Horizons Conference Thursday, May 14, at the University of Wyoming.

"Our goal is to provide mentors and role models to young people who are pursuing careers in science, engineering, mathematics, and technology, says Michelle Stark, NASA Space Grant Consortium associate director at UW. "Students not only receive first hand information about planning for college, but they also get to experience the university campus and classrooms. Most importantly, these students are given the opportunity to meet professional women in different science careers."

Cathy Valentino, an author-in-residence for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Company is the keynote speaker. She will discuss "No Pressure . No Diamonds! How You Can Expand Your Horizons and Have Fun Learning Math and Science!"
