University of Wyoming cowgirl Nikki Steffes will be a special guest Tuesday night on Sportsline Live on KCGY-FM 95.1 in Laramie.
Steffes, who ranked second nationally in the women's all-around, barrel racing and goat tying standings during the regular rodeo season, will join co-hosts David Settle and Steve Kiggins at 6 p.m. to talk about the Cowgirls' quest to win their second national championship in three years.
After slipping to fourth place last year -- UW fronted the team standings heading into the short round but faltered -- the Cowgirls will enter the 2009 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) June 14-20 at the Casper Events Center as one of the favorites.
Led by Steffes, a microbiology/medical microbiology senior from Vale, S.D., UW easily won the Central Rocky Mountain Region title and finished second, by a mere 131 points, to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in the national standings.
Two other teams, UNLV and New Mexico State University (NMSU), also appear poised to challenge for the women's team title.
UNLV returns two contestants from last year's team that surged past the Cowgirls in the championship round en route to the program's second national title.
NMSU, which finished second to UNLV at last year's finals, claimed the third spot in this season's national standings behind Cal Poly and UW.
Sportsline Live, the longest-running live sports call-in show in Wyoming, airs weekdays from 5-7:30 p.m.
