Edmunds Speaks to Legislative Committee

August 24, 2009

University of Wyoming AWARE Program Coordinator Lena Edmunds spoke to the Wyoming State Legislature's Joint Judiciary Committee Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The committee is considering legislation to help reduce underage drinking. Edmunds represented the A-Team's (a university/community group that addresses alcohol issues among college students) endorsement of a resolution supporting the legislation. The committee approved the motion to introduce the language as a bill during the 2010 legislative session.

Dave Cozzens, dean of students and associate vice president for student affairs, spoke to the committee earlier in the summer. He outlined the AWARE (Alcohol Wellness Alternatives, Research and Education) Program's efforts to promote alcohol education and responsible drinking. (link to Aware Web site)

AWARE promotes personal wellness through guidance, education, research and collaboration focused on healthy choices about the use of alcohol and other drugs.

The A-Team develops, recommends and assesses best practices in policy, prevention and intervention and enforcement to reduce underage drinking and excessive alcohol use.
