Aug. 19, 2009 -- Critically acclaimed flutist and University of Wyoming instructor Nicole Riner and the internationally celebrated professor of piano Theresa Bogard will welcome back Department of Music students with a recital Monday, Aug. 31.

"Eastern Gems" begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. They are available through Aug. 31 at the box office in the Fine Arts lobby adjacent to the concert hall.

The performance is the duo's first recital together. "Eastern Gems" is the culmination of a summer-long recording project of music for flute and piano by Eastern European composers. This season's first faculty recital serves as a preview of the CD, which is set to be released in spring 2010.

The program is comprised of Sonatines by composers Tadeusz Kassern and Danuta Uhl. An unaccompanied set of variations by Marta Ptzaszynska, a Polish native teaching at the University of Chicago, complements the Sonatines. Music by Czech composers Bohuslav Martinu and Jindrich Feld round out the rest of the program.
