Campus Construction Update for the Week of Sept. 20

Building being destroyed
Powerful jaws on an excavator ripped apart the Cowboy Dormitory west of the Earth Sciences Building Monday. The space is being cleared to be the site of the Robert and Carol Berry Center for Natural History and Conservation.

These are among the construction activities scheduled at the University of Wyoming during the week of Sept. 20-26.

Berry Center, Cowboy Dorm, WRI Storage Buildings, Old Power Plant-- Deconstruction began Monday on the Cowboy Dorm. Most of the site debris is being cleared. Some debris will be collected for re-sale and recycle. The WRI Building #5 is being removed this weekend. The alley will be blocked Saturday and/or Sunday for the removal of Building #5.

WRI Building Removal --The Western Research Institute buildings east of the Bureau of Mines Building will be moved to prepare for Berry Center construction. There will continue to be intermittent closures of the service entrance off of Lewis Street to remove the final WRI Building from the site. The service entrance will be blocked for sufficient periods most of the day Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday morning. Please use extreme caution when using the service entrance on Lewis Street and expect delays.

Lewis Street Apartment Removal -- The third and final apartment is anticipated to be moved in a couple of weeks. Please use caution on Lewis Street between 11th and 12th Streets.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Toilet accessories, partitions, and fixtures will continue to be installed in the original building. Windows and masonry continues on the exterior of the building. Interior work will continue within the addition for most of the trades.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion: Sept. 2009) -- Landscaping work will continue on east side of the Union and begin on the west side of Coe Library along 13th Street. Finish work continues on the lower two levels of the original building.

Kendall House (at 8th and University Streets) -- A pre-bid walk-thru took place on Tuesday. Please do not park on the site-construction fencing will be put in place in the next week or two. Furniture and cabinets will be removed/relocated by the end of the month to prepare for a construction start-slated for the first week in October.

Student Health/Cheney International Center -- Furniture is being delivered this week. The truck will be unloading on the east side. The majority of work has been completed on the project.

Arena-Auditorium (Scheduled Completion: Oct. 16) -- Accessible seating is being added, with demolition scheduled this week.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be open on game days. Work on upper deck continues.
 
College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The glass for the donor wall is scheduled to be installed on Tuesday.

Visual Arts -- Geotechnical testing will continue on site during the week. Care needs to be taken to stay clear of the drilling equipment.

Bioscience General Classroom Renovations, Phase 2 (Scheduled completion date: Dec. 21) -- Construction is scheduled to begin in Bioscience Building Room 220. Punch list items remain in Bioscience Rooms 217, 218 and 219.

Monopine -- The main pole is up on the cell tower north of Green Hill Cemetery, installation of additional components of the equipment continues.

Centennial Complex -- Exterior block repair is complete. Block cleaning, sealing and caulking is tentatively scheduled for this month. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building

The UW Physical Plant has scheduled the following activities scheduled for the week:

Elevators -- ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) upgrades will be performed this month for several campus elevators. The elevator at Corbett is complete and the elevator is operational. The Law Building elevator will be out of service through Sept. 18. After the main Law Building elevator work, the Law Library elevator will be out of service through Sept. 28. While the main Law Building elevator is offline, the Law Library elevator may be used to access the basement and first floor. While the Law Library elevator is offline, the main Law Building elevator may be used for access to all floors.

During the work periods, students and visitors may contact Disability Support Services at 766-6189 to arrange special accommodation if needed. Faculty and staff may contact Human Resources at 766-2437.

Concrete and Asphalt -- Miscellaneous grinding to smooth uneven concrete on sidewalks across campus will continue through September. Please avoid these areas.

Health Sciences Building -- Exterior light replacement east and west of the building is complete. Landscaping and flagstone work will continue through next week.

Agriculture Building -- Interior lighting in the main lobby is complete. Finish painting is being scheduled and will be completed as soon as practical. A new doorway between Room 3 and the corridor which will be complete by Sept. 22. Please use caution in this area.

Campus Greenhouse -- Steam system replacement continues in front of the freenhouse. Sidewalk accessibility on the north side of Willett may be interrupted during work hours. Pedestrian traffic will be routed around the work area as needed. Work will continue throughout September.

Old EngineeringBuilding -- Domestic hot water service has been interrupted in the Sawtooth area of the building due to a leak on the existing storage tank. Work to replace the failed tank will continue through September. Hot water should be restored by the first of October.

War Memorial Stadium -- Roof repairs to the press box are complete.

RMMC (Regulated Materials Management Center) -- Roofing has started. The staging area is on south side of building. Please use caution when entering from the south and around the staging area.

Geological Survey -- Roof replacement has commenced and will continue through Sept. 30. Please use caution on north side of building where staging and debris removal is taking place.

War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Roof replacement continues on the north side of the building. The staging area is on the west side of the building.

Arena-Auditorium -- Work will begin on the repair of the supply and return air fans Sept. 28 and will complete around Oct. 6. There will be minor impact on the occupants during this replacement.
