Campus Construction Update for Week of Sept. 13

These are among the construction activities scheduled at the University of Wyoming during the week of Sept. 13-19.

Berry Center, Cowboy Dorm, WRI Storage Buildings, Old Power Plant -- Deconstruction of the Cowboy Dorm (log building west of Earth Sciences Building) is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 14. Foundations from the WRI storage buildings will be removed and filled. Deconstruction for the Old Power Plant will begin later this fall. Construction on the Berry Center will begin once Cowboy Dorm and the WRI foundations have been removed. IMPORTANT: Power will be supplied to the Berry Center construction site through the Earth Sciences Building. Some core drilling will need to occur at the basement level. Building occupants will be notified when the drilling occurs once the date is set.

WRI Building Removal --The Western Research Institute buildings east of the Bureau of Mines Building and west of Cowboy Dorm (log building west of Earth Sciences Center) will be moved to prepare for Berry Center construction. There will continue to be intermittent closures of the service entrance off of Lewis Street and the service entrance will be blocked for sufficient periods the weekend of Sept. 12, and continuing through Monday, Sept. 14, before 7 a.m. as the final WRI building is removed from the site. Please use extreme caution when using the service entrance on Lewis Street and expect delays.

Lewis Street Apartment Removal -- The third and final apartment is anticipated to be moved in a couple of weeks. Please use caution on Lewis Street between 11th and 12th Streets.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Exterior masonry and window installation will continue. Interior work continues on the addition with gypsum board installation in the basement to utility rough-ins on the third level. Toilet partitions, accessories and fixtures are being installed in the original building.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion: Sept. 2009) -- The Construction Manager at Risk continues to work on the lower two levels of the 50s addition. Finish work is going on in the interior. At the reading room, which was the old entrance, wall framing and window installation will take place. Landscaping will continue on the east and west sides of the Union and in front of the Library.

Kendall House (at 8th and University Streets) -- Materials have been removed from the storage shed and landscape. The contractor and campus property will coordinate removal and relocation of cabinets, appliances and furniture still remaining in the building. A construction start date has not been set. Bids for construction will be received Sept. 23. In conjunction with requirements from the City-parking along the alley is being removed and has already been blocked off.

Student Health/Cheney International Center -- Minor items are being repaired and film is to be added to the south facing windows. A date has not been set for the installation. Furniture is to be delivered to the remaining spaces which require further accommodations. No delivery date has been set.

Berry Center -- The contractor will be working on the construction trailers. Erosion control will be placed. Deconstruction of the Cowboy Dorm and hauling out the debris to be recycled will start the week of Sept. 14.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be open on game days. Upper concrete deck will be poured this week.

Information Technology Center -- Some furniture deliveries are expected.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The landscapers will finish up the flagstone and planting on the south patio area early in the week. Work on the AV equipment and the donor wall will continue.

Bioscience General Classroom Renovations, Phase 2 (Scheduled completion date: Dec. 21) -- Construction is scheduled to begin in Bioscience Building Room 220. Punch list items remain in Bioscience Rooms 217, 218 and 219.

UW Police Facility -- The Police Department has moved into the new facility. Punch list items will be complete in the next few weeks.

Monopine -- Work on the cell tower north of Green Hill Cemetery began Monday, Aug. 31.

Ross Hall (Scheduled completion date Sept. 15) -- The first floor restrooms are being modified to increase accessibility. Restrooms near the elevators and on the second floor are available. Crews will be working nights and early morning.

Centennial Complex -- Exterior block repair is complete. Block cleaning, sealing and caulking is tentatively scheduled for early this month. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building.

The UW Physical Plant has scheduled the following activities scheduled for the week:

Elevators -- ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) upgrades will be performed during the month of September for several campus elevators. The elevator at Corbett will be out of service through Sept. 11. Following completion of the work at Corbett, the Law Building elevator will be out of service through Sept. 18. After the main Law Building elevator work, the Law Library elevator will be out of service through Sept. 28. While the main Law Building elevator is offline, the Law Library elevator may be used to access the basement and first floor. While the Law Library elevator is offline, the main Law Building elevator may be used for access to all floors. During the work periods, students and visitors may contact Disability Support Services at 766-6189 to arrange special accommodation if needed. Faculty and staff may contact Human Resources at 766-2437.

Concrete and Asphalt -- Concrete and asphalt replacement at the Animal Science Building has been completed. Concrete work at the Cooper House is complete.

Miscellaneous grinding to smooth uneven concrete on sidewalks across campus will continue through September. Please avoid these areas.

Health Sciences Building -- Concrete work on the east side of the building has been completed. Landscaping and flagstone work will continue through next week. Exterior light replacement east and west of the building continues.

Knight Hall -- An ADA ramp has been constructed at the east entrance to the building. Work is complete and the east entrance is open.

Physical Sciences Building -- Concrete and handrail work is complete.

Campus Greenhouse -- Steam system replacement continues in front of the Greenhouse. Sidewalk accessibility on the north side of Willett may be interrupted during work hours. Pedestrian traffic will be routed around the work area as needed. Work will continue throughout September.

Old Engineering -- Domestic hot water service has been interrupted in the Sawtooth area of the building due to a leak on the existing storage. Work will begin later this week to replace the failed tank and will continue through September. Hot water should be restored by the end of September.

War Memorial Stadium -- Roof repairs to the press box will continue next week on the southwest end.

RMMC -- Roofing will start late next week. Staging area will be on south side of building.

Geological Survey -- Roof replacement has commenced and will continue through 9/30/2009. Please use caution on north side of building where staging and debris removal is taking place.

War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Roof replacement continues on the north side of the building. The staging area is on the west side of the building. Please use caution when entering from the south and around the staging area.
