Cellist Julie Albers will launch the University of Wyoming Cultural Programs fall concert series Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the performance, in the Fine Arts Center concert hall, cost $18 for the
general public and $15 for students and seniors. Tickets are available by calling
the Fine Arts Center box office at (307) 766-6666 or at the Web site www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
Albers began violin studies with her mother at the age of 2 and switched to cello
when she was 4. At 18, she won the 13th International Competition for Young Musicians
in Douai, France, and in the same year, made her debut with the Cleveland Orchestra.
"World class at the age of 19?" asks UW Cultural Programs Director Cedric Reverand.
"We've been waiting for an opportunity to present her. At one point, she called and
expressed interest in performing in our seriesit's unusual for an artist to contact
us directly. When we tried to explain to her what to expect from a small town, she
laughed and informed us she was born and raised in Longmont, Colo."
In addition to solo performances, Albers regularly participates in chamber music
festivals around the world. 2009 marked the end of a two year residency with the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center Three. She is currently active with the Albers String
Trio and the cello quartet "CELLO." Albers is also a distinguished artist of the McDuffie
Center for Strings at Mercer University. Her self-titled debut album was released
in 2005. To learn more about Albers and her music, visit her Web site at www.cellistjuliealbers.com.
