UW Staff Senate Report

September 19, 2009

At its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 9, the UW Staff Senate began planning for participation in the Holiday Market, scheduled to be held Dec. 3 and 4, in the Wyoming Union.

UW Staff Senate will host a silent auction and all funds raised will support Senate activities and events, including Staff Recognition Day. Small items are welcome, as they can be used to fill gift baskets. UW staff members who are interested in donating an item for the silent auction should talk to their representative or call the Staff Senate Office at 766-5300.

For more information about the Staff Senate's involvement with the Holiday Market, e-mail the Finances and Fundraising Committee Chair Stacy Lane, UW Admissions (seat number 13) at slane6@uwyo.edu.

In addition, a group of staff senators formed a team to walk in the Habitat for Humanity of Albany County Foot-by-Foot Walk, which was held Sunday, Sept. 13. During the meeting, the Executive Council noted that many university staff members would be eligible to receive assistance from Habitat for Humanity and three current UW staff members have been given aid in the past.

Senator Jamie LeJambre, College of Arts and Sciences (seat number 5), suggested that interested charities may need to meet with the Senate Finances Committee so that decisions about what charities UW Staff Senate should support can be consistent. Senator Lane, chair of the Finances and Fundraising Committee, suggested that her committee be charged with drafting a policy and procedure for addressing charitable giving.

Currently, 12 seats remain vacant in the following units: College of Agriculture, Office of the President/Athletics, Office of the VP for Student Affairs, Physical Plant Operations, School of Law/Outreach, the Offices of Administration/Budget Planning/UW Police, the Offices of Risk Management/Facilities Planning/Auxiliary and the Offices of the VP for Advancement and General Counsel/Government Communication and Legal Affairs. Benefitted staff members who have been at UW for at least one year are eligible to serve as senators, and those who are interested are encouraged to e-mail Senator Lane, chair of the Credentials and Elections Committee, at slane6@uwyo.edu.

All UW staff members are welcome to attend senate meetings and encouraged to share concerns and ideas with their senators. A list of current senators and the units they represent, official meeting minutes, committee reports and current and upcoming events can be found on the UW Staff Senate Web site at www.uwyo.edu/StaffSenate/. The next full-senate meeting is scheduled for Oct. 14, at 1:15 p.m. in the Union Senate Chambers.

For more information, call the Staff Senate Office at 766-5300 or send e-mail to staffsen@uwyo.edu.
