Campus Construction Update for Week of Oct. 4

These are among the construction activities scheduled at the University of Wyoming during the week of Oct. 4-10.

Cowboy Dorm/WRI Storage Buildings/Berry Center -- The Cowboy Dorm has been removed. A contractor will begin excavation in one to two weeks for the Berry Center. The WRI storage buildings have all been removed down to the foundation. Foundations will be removed in the next week or two and will require some intermittent closure or realigned fencing along the alley for brief periods of time. Please use caution when driving or walking in this area.

Old Power Plant -- Items will be deconstructed from the Old Power Plant in the next two weeks. Demolition will begin mid-October. Materials from the demolition will be taken for recycle.

Lewis Street Apartment Removal -- The third and final apartment is anticipated to be moved in a couple of weeks. Please use caution on Lewis Street between 11th and 12th Streets.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Masonry work and glass installation will continue on the exterior of the building. Stucco work at the penthouse will also continue on the exterior. Manhole at the southwest corner of the site will be completed. Taping of drywall continues in the basement and drywall board installation will continue on the main level. Metal framing continues on the second level and utility rough-ins is on-going on the fourth level. Final clean will start in the original building.

ILLC (Information Library and Learning Center) -- Work will wrap up in the existing building except for the reading room being created on the west end. Stone work will start for that area and at miscellaneous areas around the building. Landscaping work is taking longer than expected and will continue on the west side of the library and east side of the Union.

Kendall House (at 8th and University Streets) -- UW Property has removed materials from the Kendall House. The contractor will begin fencing the area and setting up for site work. There will be no parking along the alley on the east side of the property.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to Veterinarian Laboratory -- The installation of the structural steel will continue. Resurfacing the front parking lot will also occur, weather permitting. The masons will be mobilizing on site.

Arena-Auditorium (Scheduled Completion: Oct. 16) -- Accessible seating is being added, with concrete to be formed this week.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be open on game days. Work on upper deck continues.

Bioscience General Classroom Renovations, Phase 2 (Scheduled completion date: Dec. 21) -- Construction is scheduled to begin in Bioscience Building Room 220. Punch list items remain in Bioscience Rooms 217, 218 and 219. Staging area takes up 1 parking spot in the Hoyt Hall loop drive.

Centennial Complex -- Exterior block repair is complete. Block cleaning, sealing and caulking is scheduled to start Oct. 5. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building.

The UW Physical Plant has scheduled the following activities for the week:

Elevators -- All ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) elevator upgrades at Corbett and the Law Building have been completed.

Concrete and Asphalt -- Concrete replacement at Cowboy Field is complete. Asphalt will be patched next week.

Health Sciences Building -- Landscaping and flagstone work on the east side continues.

Agriculture Building -- Painting has been completed in the lobby area. Access has returned to normal.

Campus Grounds -- Sprinkler systems are being winterized across campus from now through October. There may be occasional overspray on sidewalks and around buildings.

Campus Greenhouse -- Steam system replacement will resume next week in front of the greenhouse. Sidewalk accessibility on the north side of Willett may be interrupted during work hours. Pedestrian traffic will be routed around the work area as needed. Work will continue through mid-October.

Student Union -- Carpeting throughout the building is being replaced. Work will continue for a couple more weeks.

Engineering -- Window sill repairs continue on 4th, 5th & 6th floors inside of the court area on the east wall.

Old Engineering Building -- Domestic hot water service has been interrupted in the Sawtooth area of the building due to a leak on the existing storage tank. Work to replace the failed tank should be complete by Oct. 6.

RMMC (Regulated Materials Management Center) -- Re-roofing continues. The staging area is on south side of building. Please use caution when entering from the south and around the staging area.

War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Roof replacement continues on the north side of the building. The staging area is on the west side of the building. Please use caution when entering from the north and around the staging area.

Arena-Auditorium -- Work on the repair of the supply and return air fans will complete around Oct. 6. There will be minor impact on the occupants during this replacement.

Knight Hall -- Capstone work continues on the southwest planters of the building. Please use caution in this area.

Southwest Campus (9th & Ivinson) -- Work is complete on the bench pad near the Veteran's Memorial in the grass hollow.
