James Surls' "Rolling Flower."
Nationally known artist James Surls will discuss his work Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. in Room 506 of the University of Wyoming's William Robertson Coe Library, followed by a reception celebrating the installation of his newest piece, "Rolling Flower."
"Surls is recognized America's most important living sculptors and one of the most distinctive creative forces on the international art scene in the last several decades," says Nancy Marlatt, marketing coordinator for the UW libraries.
Also known for his work with non-profit organizations and emerging artists, Surls and his wife, fellow artist Charmaine Locke, have worked as arts administrators and arts educators. Both Surls and Locke have large-scale sculptures in the UW Art Museum's exhibition "Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational."
