UW Trustees Approve Room and Board Rates

January 22, 2010

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today (Friday) approved slight increases in housing and board costs for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years.

The room and board fees for 2010-11 in the residence halls will increase by about 4 percent and apartment rent will increase by less than 4 percent to cover projected increases in operating expenses for Residence Life and Dining Services (RLDS).

An auxiliary department, RLDS is financially self-supporting and must generate its own revenues through room, board and rent to support its three major expenses of salaries and benefits, utilities and food costs, says Douglas H. Vinzant, UW's vice president for administration.

Residence hall charges will range from $3,506 for a double room, up from $3,364 this year, to $5,075 for a single room, an increase of $183. The costs the following year will range from $3,657 for a double room to $5,518 for a single room.

Monthly apartment rental rates next fall will increase by $30 for two bedrooms and $34 for three bedrooms at River Village, $25 at Landmark Village and $22 at Spanish Walk. The following year, rates will increase an additional $32 for two bedrooms and $36 for three bedrooms at River Village, $27 at Landmark Village and $24 at Spanish Walk.

All meal plans will increase by about 4.5 percent. The unlimited access plan next fall will increase to $4,748, the 15-meals per week plan will cost $4,070 and the 12-meals per week plan will be $3,717. In 2011-12, the unlimited access plan will cost $4,966, 15 meals per week will cost $4,257 and the 12-meals per week plan will cost $3,888.
