UW Student Selected for NASA Internship

February 10, 2010

Tal Wammen of Reva, S.D., a University of Wyoming civil engineering student, was selected to serve an internship this semester at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., where scientists specialize in propulsion studies.

Wammen works in the facilities management office that constructs new buildings and test stands required for the new types of technologies NASA creates. He says the main focus is building information modeling software that is not currently used, but is planned for future use.

"My job is to research and test the software to determine if it will be beneficial for the facilities department to use," Wammen says.

Additionally, he is able to shadow engineers in other departments to learn about their jobs and gain valuable real-life skills. He will present his research findings to NASA at the end of the semester.

"It is an awesome internship in all fields of engineering and applied science that I think everyone needs to apply for," Wammen says.
