UW McNair Scholar Raymond Soto Presents Research

March 16, 2010

Raymond Soto of Powell, a senior in microbiology and a University of Wyoming McNair Scholar, was selected to present his research during the Research Scholar Conference at Oklahoma State University.

Soto presented a poster titled "Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization of Antibiotic Resistance Integrons in Salmonella enteric serovar Newport." The symposium offered undergraduate students an opportunity to present their research in a formal academic setting.

Faculty mentor John Willford and graduate student mentor Ashley Driscoll, departments of Microbiology and Molecular Biology, directed Soto's work. Soto will continue to develop his research skills this summer by completing an undergraduate research fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

The McNair Scholars Program, funded through the United States Department of Education, helps promising undergraduates to pursue doctoral degrees. The program targets first-generation college, limited-income and minority students.
