A retirement reception for Scott Johnson is scheduled Friday, May 28, at 2 p.m. at
the second floor atrium in UW's Information Technology Center.
When Client Support Services Manager Scott Johnson came to the University of Wyoming as a student in 1968, the top television show was Rowen and Martin's "Laugh In." The Beatles' "Hey Jude" was the song of the year, and "In the Heat of the Night" edged out "The Graduate" and "Bonnie and Clyde" as the year's best picture.
At UW, students were awed by the architecture of the new Classroom Building, and some of them were taking advantage of a significant technological breakthrough -- they were bringing cassette recorders to class to record lectures.
Learning technology has advanced into areas that were inconceivable back then, and Johnson, who will retire after 42 years at the university, played a key role in accomplishing those advances at UW.
A retirement reception honoring Johnson's 42-year affiliation with UW is scheduled Friday, May 28, at 2 p.m. at the second floor atrium in UW's Information Technology Center. Everyone is welcome.
"I have enjoyed all the years at the university and all the wonderful people I've worked with and who guided me down the path of knowledge," says Johnson, who's last 32 years were with IT through its various stages of growth. During that time, he vigorously pushed to expand student computing resources across campus and strongly promoted the use of the latest teaching technology in campus classrooms.
Before joining IT, Johnson had stints with the Safety Office, Wyoming Union, Department of Chemistry and Residence Life and Dining Services.
