Wyoming First Lady To Speak at UW/CC Commencement May 13

May 6, 2010 — textThe University of Wyoming/Casper College (UW/CC) Center's commencement ceremony will honor 116 graduates Thursday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Casper Events Center.

Rod Thompson, assistant lecturer of technical education at the UW/CC Center, will offer the faculty reflections, followed by the student speaker Stephanie Martin, candidate for a bachelor's degree in English.

Wyoming's first lady Nancy Freudenthal will offer the commencement address. Freudenthal received her bachelor's and law degrees from UW and has served as an attorney of intergovernmental affairs in the Office of the Wyoming Governor, as well as on the Wyoming Tax Commission and the Wyoming Board of Equalization. She is a partner at the law firm of Davis and Cannon in Cheyenne, and received Senate confirmation on a federal judgeship for the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming, a position for which she was nominated by President Obama.

Bachelor's degrees will be accorded upon 57 graduates in elementary, secondary science, and technical education. Degrees will also be awarded in communication, criminal justice, English, humanities and fine arts, journalism, mathematics and science, political science, psychology, social science, biology, ecology, nursing, and social work. One master's degree in public administration will also be awarded.

"The UW/CC Center ceremony is truly special," said Brent Pickett, associate dean and director of the UW/CC Center. "A lot of faculty, administrators and staff travel from Laramie to see and help confer degrees on UW/CC students. It is small enough so that we can have every graduate walk across the stage and shake President Buchanan's hand, but large enough to make it a great community celebration."

A reception for graduates and their families will immediately follow the ceremony.
