Campus Construction Update for the Week of June 27-July 3

June 25, 2010 — These are among the construction activities scheduled June 27-July 3 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. The alley between the new building and the Bureau of Mines Building (9 ½ Street) will be closed to vehicular traffic from June 28 to July 3 for the installation of the building underground utilities into the street.
The first floor activities include final MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) rough-ins with all the walls being insulated and drywall hanging and finishing operations. The interior stone work will be installed in the outreach area as well.
Second floor has final MEP wall rough-in as well and drywall operations will begin by the end of the week. The roof will be installed in the plaza and green roof areas along with final decking and steel detailing on the sloped roof. Third floor will have ongoing MEP rough-in operations. Masonry will be installed on the south and east sides of the building to complete the exterior skin.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Fencing removal will take place in the next two weeks. Rough site grading has begun. The last building along Soule is deconstructed. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire three blocks are fenced off so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around that area.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Deconstruction and abatement contractors have mobilized and abatement has started. The deconstruction contractor has begun separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. Fencing around the four-block area has been completed so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around that area. Utility disconnects have stated with no closures expected.

Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek) -- Abatement has stated on the Albertsons building. Deconstruction on Albertsons is scheduled to start in early July.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Art design and related finish upgrades continue on the second and third floors. HVAC and electrical work continues this week. There will be no access to second or third floors. Access to the elevator for the ADA route to first floor will remain.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Classes will begin in the fall) -- The Wyoming Union parking lot will be closed July 5-16. Exterior landscaping and furniture and miscellaneous equipment installation continues.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. Upgrades to the east side restrooms continue. Upper east front edge slabs for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) seating extension are complete. Tile and carpet work has been completed for most suites. Electrical installation continues on the lower concourse. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through the summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont Streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources) -- The departments have moved into the building. Landscaping is continuing with equipment and truck traffic in the area. The sidewalk at the corner of 8th and Fremont will be closed the next two weeks for sidewalk and street repairs so use caution when walking in this area. Design for the basement finish is nearly complete and construction will start in July.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Finish work and substantial completion inspection continues on the interior. Site work is ongoing. A move from the north half to the south half is scheduled for the week of June 28.

Wyoming Hall -- Work at the south entrance is complete. Access has returned to normal.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The north entrance is open to traffic. The entrance will be closed on July 1 for one day to install floor tile. On July 1, the east and west entrances should be used for access. Persons with special access needs should coordinate with specific departments within the building.

Knight Hall -- The west entry on the north side of the building will re-open next week. The east entrance will be closed June 30 for door replacement. Signs will direct traffic to an accessible entrance on the north side of the building. Other entrances will remain open for building access.

Please use the east main entrance as an alternate exit. An overflow drain has been installed on the roof over the Bookstore. Re-roofing will begin next week. The staging area will be on the north side of the Union. No access issues are anticipated.

College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement on the original Ag building is in progress. The staging area is on the west side of the facility facing Prexy's Pasture.
