Campus Construction Update for the Week of July 11

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 11-17 at the University of Wyoming:

Parking Lot North of Fine Arts Building -- Irrigation well testing will occur this week. Be aware of fire hoses and trucks in the area.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Wyoming Union Parking Lot Closure -- The Union lot is closed for renovation. The Day Lot (located behind Half-Acre Gym) is open to "A" permits until the Union lot reopens. The north entrance to the Day Lot will also serve as the exit, so there will be vehicles entering and exiting at the same point. Please drive slowly when accessing this lot. The Union lot is expected to reopen July 19.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. The following activities are scheduled to take place next week: First floor -- painting of walls and ceilings, drywall of loose end areas, install fire/smoke dampers, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) ceiling rough-in, prep for ceiling grid installation, elevator installation.
Second floor -- drywall taping and finishing, drywall of loose end areas, installation of fire/smoke dampers, MEP ceiling rough-in. 
Third floor -- Drywall installation and finishing, wall backing and MEP rough-in. 
Penthouse -- Installation of air handing unit and roof, decking work. 
Exterior -- Wash brick on south side and remove scaffold install scaffold, insulation and brick on north side, install roofing at green roof. Utility work may occur in the alley between Berry Center and Bureau of Mines Building.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction is complete. Rough site grading is ongoing with roadbase overlay to follow. Materials were separated for recycle/re-use where possible. Fencing has been removed around the entire three blocks.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Deconstruction and abatement contractors have mobilized and abatement continues. The deconstruction contractor has begun separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire four blocks are fenced off; no pedestrian or vehicle traffic allowed. Utility disconnects are on-going with no closures expected.

Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek Drive) -- Abatement is completed on the Albertsons building; deconstruction is scheduled to begin July 12. Fencing around both buildings will begin this week.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Installation of art design and related finish upgrades are scheduled on the second and third floors. Framing continues this week. There will be no access to the second or third floors. Access to the elevator for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) route to first floor will remain.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. Upgrades to the eastside restrooms continue. Upper east front edge slabs for ADA seating extension are complete. Carpet installation continues in the club area. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through the summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Conservation Corps) -- The departments have moved into the building. Landscaping is completed. Design for the basement finish is complete and construction will begin in mid-July.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Asbestos removal and demolition of spaces associated with renovation work in the original building began July 6.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Biological Sciences Building -- The heat will be shut off in this building until around July 19 to replace parts and repair the heating system. Steam will still be available to the research laboratories. Temperature issues should be reported to the Physical Plant service desk.

Knight Hall -- The east entry will be closed until August 1 to complete work on the accessible door. Signs are in place to direct traffic to an accessible entrance on the north side of the building. Other entrances will remain open for building access.

Student Union -- Steps at the northeast corner of the building in the loading dock area are complete. Re-roofing will begin July 19. The staging area will be on the north side of the Union. No access issues are anticipated.

College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement on the original building is in progress. The staging area is on the west side of the facility facing Prexy's Pasture.

19th Street -- Work continues on the east side of the street to place landscape blocks along the sidewalk at the raised landscape area. Please use caution and watch for heavy equipment in the area.

Day Lot -- Well repairs continue at the east end of the lot. Please use caution around the work area.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Installation of a roof access door and fan louver covers on the clear story roof is complete.

Willett Drive/Fraternity Row -- Work is complete.

Campus -- Parking lot striping will occur next week along Fraternity and Sorority mall, Willett Drive, north of Agriculture and north of McWhinnie Hall. Areas will be blocked off as needed.

Campus -- Electrical meters installation continues at various campus locations. Some minor obstructions to pedestrian traffic may occur.

Campus -- The annual steam shutdown will occur July 28-Aug. 16. A portable boiler will be placed in the area of Washakie Dining Hall from July 19-Aug. 17.
