Campus Construction Update for the Week of July 4

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 4-10 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. The first floor activities include final MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) rough-ins above the ceiling, painting of the walls and exposed finished and start of elevator installation. Second and third floors have final MEP wall rough-in above the ceiling and continued drywall operations. The green roof installation continues. Masonry continues on the south and outreach areas. Scaffolding will be set up on the north side for clip and spray-on insulation. Windows will be installed on the west side. Installation of underground storm and sanitary sewer lines is on hold pending design changes, due to the discovery of previously-unknown utilities.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Rough site grading has begun. Deconstruction is complete. Materials were separated for recycle/re-use where possible. Fencing has been removed around the entire three blocks.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Deconstruction and abatement contractors have mobilized. Abatement has begun. The deconstruction contractor has begun separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire four blocks are fenced off; no pedestrian or vehicle traffic allowed. Utility disconnects are on-going with no closures expected.

Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek Drive) -- Abatement has begun on the Albertsons building; deconstruction is scheduled to begin early this month. Fencing around both buildings will begin this week.
Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Installation of art design and related finish upgrades on the second and third floors have begun. Framing continues this week. No access to second or third floors.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Classes will begin in the fall) -- The Wyoming Union parking lot renovation will start July 6 and take about two weeks. Landscaping will conclude during the week, with the exception of the strip between the sidewalk and curb along the south side of the building. Work in this area will be underway. Furniture and audio visual installation will continue inside the building.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. Upgrades to the eastside restrooms continue. Upper east front edge slabs for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) seating extension are complete. Tile and carpet work has been completed for most suites. Electrical installation continues on the lower concourse; electrical will be shut down to the Indoor Practice Facility on Friday. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through the summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources) -- The departments have moved into the building. Landscaping will be complete this week. The sidewalk at the corner of 8th and Fremont streets is now open. Design for the basement finish is complete and construction will begin in mid-July.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Punch list items are being addressed and commissioning is under way at the addition. Asbestos removal and demolition of spaces associated with renovation work in the original building will begin July 6.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Biological Sciences -- The heat will be shut off in this building until around July 19 to replace parts and repair the heating system. Steam will still be available to the research laboratories. Temperature issues should be reported to the Physical Plant Service Desk.

Knight Hall -- The west entry on the north side of the building will remain closed until July 14. Work at the east entrance is complete. Signs are in place to direct traffic to an accessible entrance on the north side of the building. Other entrances will remain open for building access.

Student Union -- Steps at the northeast corner of the building in the loading dock area are being replaced, and the door has been blocked for exiting the building. Please use the east main entrance as an alternate exit. An overflow drain has been installed on the roof over the Bookstore. Re-roofing will begin July 19. The staging area will be on the north side of the Union. No access issues are anticipated.

College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement on the original building is in progress. The staging area is on the west side of the facility facing Prexy's Pasture.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Installation of a roof access door and fan louver covers on the clear story roof are nearing completion. No access issues are anticipated.

Willett Drive/Fraternity Row -- Work continues on the backfilling and clean up of the parkway area. Please use caution.

19th Street -- Work will occur on the east side of the street to place landscape blocks along the sidewalk at the raised landscape area. Please use caution and watch for heavy equipment in the area.

Campus Grounds -- Electrical meters will be installed at various locations beginning next week. Some minor obstructions to pedestrian traffic are anticipated. The annual steam shutdown will occur July 28-Aug. 16. A portable boiler will be placed in the area of Washakie Dining Hall from July 19-Aug. 17.

Day Lot -- Well repairs will continue next week at the east end of the lot. There will be a drilling rig and several trucks; please use caution around the work area.
