July 29, 2010 — The Wyoming Conservation Corps (WCC) has received a $11,500 donation from Devon Energy to support a wildlife conservation project completed this summer in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management's Rawlins Field Office in Carbon County.

Dannele Peck McNair Scholars Present Research Tuesday At UW Symposium

July 29, 2010 — Twelve University of Wyoming students will present research in areas ranging from mathematics to criminal justice and psychology Tuesday, Aug. 3, during the UW McNair Scholars Research Symposium.

July 28, 2010 — Undergraduate students from around the country, including five from the University of Wyoming, are learning about conservation laws and applications during a summer program at UW.

July 27, 2010 — The majority of candidates running for Wyoming governor will discuss issues Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the University of Wyoming.

"Harnessing the Power of Social Media Marketing" Class Set for Aug. 5 in Casper

July 26, 2010 — Wyoming Entrepreneur, the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (WSBDC) and the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce will host a class on the power of social networking as a marketing tool Thursday, Aug. 5, in Casper.

Annual Steam Shutdown Begins Tuesday

July 26, 2010 — The University of Wyoming Physical Plant reports that the annual campus steam shutdown will begin Tuesday, July 27, and continue through Aug. 16. Some buildings will have no hot water during the shutdown. A portable boiler has been placed in the area of Washakie Dining Hall until Aug. 17. Several tunnel fans will be used during the process. July 20, 2010 — The University of Wyoming's Enhanced Oil Recovery Commission will meet at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, in Room 506 of the University of Wyoming's Coe Library.

Energy Efficiency at UW

July 19, 2010 — The University of Wyoming Physical Plant and Facilities Planning departments are working to decrease energy consumption on campus through a number of energy efficiency projects and initiatives. "From new construction to building renovations and infrastructure improvements, energy efficiency projects have been ongoing for several years," say Jim Scott, UW Physical Plant director and Campus Sustainability Committee co-chair. Examples include building to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, installing utility meters for major campus buildings, upgrading interior and exterior lighting, replacing older mechanical systems, replacing and improving campus infrastructure and evaluating alternative energy sources. "Recently, specific action steps in UW's Climate Action Plan (CAP) have provided guidance and targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to assist in prioritizing projects," says Scott. July 19, 2010 — A proposal for a new national policy to protect Yellowstone National Park's geyser basin, including Old Faithful, is the topic for the summer seminar series Thursday, July 22, at the University of Wyoming-National Park Service (UW-NPS) Research Center. The center is located at the AMK Ranch in Grand Teton National Park.

UW to Host Uranium Forum Aug. 4

July 16, 2010 — The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) on Aug. 4 will host a forum on uranium production and recovery. "The Future of Uranium Production in Wyoming: A Public Forum on In-Situ Recovery," will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the benefits and risks associated with uranium production from leading experts in health, environmental protection and uranium extraction. "Every scenario that moves us to a clean energy future involves the use of uranium," SER Director Mark Northam says. "Large sectors of the population have concerns about uranium, based on a lack of knowledge. This conference is design to address those concerns." The forum will be held from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the UW Conference Center at the Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie. Stephen Herring, laboratory fellow at Idaho National Laboratory, will serve as keynote speaker at the event. Wyoming Union Parking Lot Closure

July 12, 2010 — The Wyoming Union lot is closed for renovation and is expected to reopen Monday, July 19. The Day Lot (located behind Half-Acre Gym) is open to "A" permits until the Union lot reopens. The north entrance to the Day Lot will also serve as the exit, so there will be vehicles entering and exiting at the same point. Please drive slowly when accessing this lot. July 2, 2010 — Vote for Art, a Web site that hosts and organizes collegiate graphic design competitions in partnership with major universities across the country, is seeking design submissions for the University of Wyoming. The top submitted designs will be printed and sold on T-shirts, says Jeremy Parker, founder of the Web site. The contest opened June 30.
