UW to Host Uranium Forum Aug. 4

July 16, 2010

The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) on Aug. 4 will host a forum on uranium production and recovery.

"The Future of Uranium Production in Wyoming: A Public Forum on In-Situ Recovery," will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the benefits and risks associated with uranium production from leading experts in health, environmental protection and uranium extraction.

"Every scenario that moves us to a clean energy future involves the use of uranium," SER Director Mark Northam says. "Large sectors of the population have concerns about uranium, based on a lack of knowledge. This conference is design to address those concerns."

The forum will be held from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the UW Conference Center at the Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie. Registration is free but seating is limited, and early registration is suggested. To register, go to the Web site at: or call (307) 766-2663.

J. Stephen Herring, laboratory fellow at Idaho National Laboratory, will serve as keynote speaker at the event. He will provide a broad overview of the energy future of the United States and the potential role of nuclear power alongside other energy sources in addressing future needs.
