October 29, 2010 — The grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Arun Gandhi, peace activist and proponent of nonviolence, will speak at the University of Wyoming Tuesday, Nov. 16, as part of the UW Social Justice Research Center’s semester speaker series. His free public lecture, "Lessons Learned from My Grandfather: Non-violence in a Violent World," -- offering firsthand insights into one of history's most influential leaders -- is from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts main stage.

October 28, 2010 — The University of Wyoming fall Cultural Programs’ concert series continues with Basix, an a cappella ensemble, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Fine Arts concert hall.

October 27, 2010 — The University of Wyoming Delta Delta Delta chapter will host a 24-hour all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, to 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at the chapter house located at 1616 E. Sorority Row in Laramie. Tickets, available at the door, cost $5 per person.

October 27, 2010 — New Denver-based music ensemble, Telling Stories will present works by University of Wyoming composers Amber Pollock, Ryan Pendleton, Justin Smith, Joao Machado, Jacob Gunnels and Daniel Galbreath Saturday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. in the UW Fine Arts Center concert hall. The free concert is supported by the Douglas B. Reeves endowment for music composition.
October 27, 2010 — The National Research Council (NRC) ranks the University of Wyoming's Department of Economics and Finance in the College of Business as the nation’s leader in faculty research output and eighth overall in research productivity. The review ranked all 120 United States economics Ph.D. programs.

October 27, 2010 — Folks who live on the west side of Laramie may soon see University of Wyoming students in their neighborhood, clipboards and cameras in hand. Their mission: To gather information about the oldest part of Laramie.

October 27, 2010 — The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Pan Band performs a free concert Monday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall. The program will feature Caribbean steel drum music. International steel drum virtuoso, Tom Miller, will join the band as guest artist. He has performed and recorded with musicians such as Grammy award winners, Allison Krause and the late John Denver.

October 25, 2010 — University of Wyoming researchers have a powerful new instrument to monitor air quality levels in Sublette County. Researchers in the UW College Engineering and Applied Science Department of Atmospheric Science last week unveiled an upgrade of a mobile air quality laboratory that for two years has been used to monitor and help predict high ozone levels in the area.

October 22, 2010 — No stranger to Wyoming, Irish pianist Barry Douglas will perform a Cultural Programs’ concert Friday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Fine Arts Center concert Hall. It will mark the eighth time he has performed at UW since 1989.

October 22, 2010 — Matt Francis’ good idea has turned into a good amount of work. The American Heritage Center’s specialist on the papers of authors and journalists, Francis first approached best-selling Wyoming author C.J. Box in April and encouraged him to donate his papers -- including writing drafts, research files, clippings, interviews and other correspondence -- to the University of Wyoming. The conversation restarted in September when Box toured the AHC and began researching some of the center’s digital collections.

October 20, 2010 — Significant reductions in the rate of biodiversity loss worldwide must recognize trade-offs, timing and complexity, according to an article published Oct. 15 in the journal Science, co-written by John Tschirhart, a professor in the University of Wyoming Department of Economics and Finance.
October 19, 2010 — The Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund awarded $25,000 to the University of Wyoming Art Museum for “Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational.” Funds will be used to add several new works of modern or contemporary art to the outdoor exhibition in the coming year.

October 18, 2010 — Don Roth has added another title to his already impressive resume at the University of Wyoming. The director of the university's Science Posse and Biomedical Science Program, Roth took over July 1 as associate director for academics in the UW School of Energy Resources (SER).
October 18, 2010 — The Student Health Service still has seasonal flu shots for faculty and staff. This shot will protect against seasonal flu (and includes protection against H1N1 influenza.
October 18, 2010 — Six individuals who have contributed a combined 178 years of service to the University of Wyoming Physical Plant will be honored during a retirement reception Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 1-3 p.m. in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom. A plaque ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.

Let me be clear: sexual assault is a vile crime. Violence of any kind conflicts with every purpose of a university and will not be tolerated at the University of Wyoming. UW takes any complaint of sexual assault extremely seriously; the safety of every member of our community is my paramount concern.
