Joe Leimkuhler, offshore well drilling manager for Shell E and P-Americas, will speak

Offshore well drilling, thrust into the international spotlight this year following the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, will be the focus of a lecture Friday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture auditorium.
Joe Leimkuhler, manager for Shell E&P-Americas, will discuss "Deepwater Well Design and Operations -- Going Forward Post Moratorium." It is the annual H.T. Person Homecoming Lecture in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
For the last 28 years, Leimkuhler, who earned an M.S. degree (1987) at UW, has worked well engineering and drilling operations in a variety of capacities. His prior assignments with Shell have included subsea development manager for the Gulf of Mexico, and deepwater drilling superintendent assignments at various sites.
Leimkuhler served as the project drilling engineer for numerous deepwater exploration wells. He also served as an instructor at Shell's Bellaire Research Center in Houston, Texas, where he taught Shell's drilling engineering classes.
