United Way Campaign at UW Launches Oct. 25

October 21, 2010

UW President Tom Buchanan has declared the week of Oct. 25-29 to be United Way Week at the University of Wyoming.

"The UW community is a very large part of the Albany County United Way campaign," Buchanan says.  "Many of our programs also benefit from the services offered by the United Way agencies."

The Wyoming Union will host tables for United Way agencies and personnel during the week, and students as well as staff are encouraged to contribute. The Albany County Branch of the American Red Cross and Laramie County Reproductive Health will be in the Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Safe Project and the Laramie Youth Crisis Center will be in the Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday.

All UW faculty and staff will receive their United Way packets this week and next, and a payroll deduction form will be included.  "For the price of a lunch once a month," Buchanan says, "you can really help the thousands of folks who rely on our United Way agencies."

UW is one of the few employers to offer payroll deductions for United Way contributions.

"Our UW community is amazingly generous when it comes to helping others and I know that I can count on all of my colleagues at UW to once again help those in our community who need us."

Buchanan emphasizes that donations are confidential, unless UW employees choose to join one of the United Way Leadership levels and agree to allow their names to be published.
