WPM Has Another Successful Statewide Membership Drive

October 25, 2010

Wyoming Public Media reached its $265,000 Fall Membership Drive goal Thursday after just 54 hours of on-air fund raising.

"Support for public radio in Wyoming is very strong," says Program Director Roger Adams. "Listener contributions make up the single largest source of income for Wyoming Public Media's (WPM) operations. Membership accounts for 36 percent of our annual budget."

Adams says WPM's semiannual membership drives continue to be among the shortest in the public broadcasting system.

A service of the University of Wyoming, WPM includes three radio stations: Wyoming Public Radio which airs news from NPR and the BBC, Classical Wyoming with 24/7 classical music and Jazz Wyoming with 24/7 jazz. This fall's drive was unique in that WPM fundraising was on all three signals at the same time.

"We made a combined appeal to listeners across our three networks," Adams says. "It is something few public stations have tried and we hope it will be a model for our drives in the future as we work to spend less time on air fundraising and more on excellent programming."
