Health Profession Session Planned for Wyoming Community College, UW Outreach Students
November 1, 2010 — An informational video conference for Wyoming community college and University of Wyoming Outreach students interested in pursuing a career in the health profession is being offered through UW.
The session is from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at eight videoconferencing sites across the state -- Casper, Cheyenne, Laramie, Powell, Riverton, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Torrington.
Students interested in a health care career -- including medicine, dentistry, podiatry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician's assistant or optometry -- are encouraged to attend. Community college or UW Outreach center faculty or staff members interested in learning more about advising pre-professional health students and the resources UW offers are also urged to participate.
The session focuses on the academic requirements and expectations for admission to various UW health profession programs. Students will learn about time lines for preparing and applying to health profession programs and those accessible for Wyoming residents. The value of experiences in the areas of research, health care, job shadowing, community service, cross-cultural learning, leadership roles, professional issues and services and resources offered by the UW Pre-Professional Health Advising office also will be discussed.
Programs for Wyoming residents include WICHE-PSEP (Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education-Professional Student Exchange); WY-DENT (dental education program); and WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) medical education program.
