UW Hockey Club Falls in Overtime at Colorado

November 1, 2010

The University of Wyoming hockey club suffered a 5-4 overtime loss Saturday night at the University of Colorado, the Cowboys' fourth consecutive setback following a season-opening victory.

Reilly O'Brien scored the decisive goal at the 1:34 mark of overtime for the Buffaloes, who improved to 5-1 in the Pacific Region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. UW fell despite a hat trick by Mitch Nelson (Sheridan) and another strong showing by Matt Schulz (Casper), who padded his team-leading points total with his ninth goal to go along with two assists. Seth Farrell (Longmont, Colo.) also recorded two assists for the Cowboys, who had not lost four straight games since a five-game skid late in the 2008-09 season.

UW will attempt to get back on track this weekend at the Clash in the Corn tournament at Sioux Center, Iowa. The Cowboys face Dordt College (Thursday), College of the Canyons (Friday) and Hope College (Saturday) at the round-robin event.
