Gallery 211 will host an exhibition of recent work by printmaker Sarah Smelser Friday, Jan. 28, through Sunday, Feb. 27.

Gallery 211 will host an exhibition of recent work by printmaker Sarah Smelser, this year's Inky Paper Press visiting artist. Her work will be on view Friday, Jan. 28 through Sunday, Feb. 27.

Located at 211 S. 1st Street in Laramie, the gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays from noon-4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

A reception, with a lecture by Smelser, will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Gallery 211.

Her work can be recognized for its large, softly toned shapes and economically layered compositions. Of her many national and international exhibitions, most notable may be the China Sanbao International Printmaking Exhibition and Symposium, for which only 15 American artists were invited to participate.

Smelser has an extensive background as an artist in residence, professor, visiting artist and exhibitor. She and her husband, master printer Jonathan Higgins, in 2000 founded the Manneken Press in Bloomington, Ill.

Smelser served two years as president of the Mid America Print Council, which brings printmakers, professors, students and collectors together through their passion for printmaking.
