February 10, 2011

These are among the construction activities scheduled Feb. 13-19 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs -- (Scheduled completion, fall 2011.) The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Construction activities will be focused in the Engineering and Aven Nelson building classrooms.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- Site cleanup by the Berry Center is nearly complete. Fencing has been reconfigured to secure the site, and Lewis Street will remain closed during construction.

UW Tennis Facility (Armory Road across from Little League Complex, scheduled completion: March, 2011) -- A water shutdown is scheduled for Feb. 15. Roof seaming work is scheduled as weather allows; post-tensioned slabs will be installed, the building will be heated and welding is scheduled in the link section.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Carpet installation will conclude on the seventh floor in the sleeping rooms and move to sixth. Painting will continue on the second and third floors. Utility rough-ins and metal framing will continue on the first floor. Cabinet installation in ADA rooms and tile installation in the ADA toilets will begin.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Footing work is near completion and foundation work will continue. Excavation and underground utility work will proceed as weather permits. There will be frequent heavy construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week.
The crane has been relocated to the south  side for the next phase of steel erection that will continue for several weeks. Masonry work for the wall continues continuing on the south. A temporary enclosure of west structure will start to provide protection for the start of floor slabs and interior rough-in. Be aware that there will be construction traffic throughout the construction period. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- A six-block area is fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around this area. Work will resume in the spring.

Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Operational testing will resume. The contractor will finish up work with vents at the incinerator area and continue with modifications to the fire suppression system in areas subject to freezing.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Aven Nelson Building -- Window replacement continues. The west parking lot has been closed and fenced for construction staging throughout the project. The west entrance is closed, but will be available for emergency exit if needed; please use other entrances to the building. Scaffolding has been moved to the east side of the building. The east entrance will remain open. Please use caution around work areas.

Asbestos Abatement -- Work continues in the Physical Science, Biological Science and Pharmacy buildings. Impact to building occupants and pedestrian traffic should be minimal.

College of Agriculture Building -- Painting in the second floor hallway continues. Please use caution around work areas.
