Gallery 211 will display the work of installation artist Audrey Hasen Russell beginning Saturday, March 12 through Saturday, April 16.
An opening reception for Russell is Saturday, March 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Gallery 211. The Gallery is located at 211 S. 1st Street in Laramie and is open from noon-4 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays. All events are free and open to the public.
Russell's passion for sculpture defies both tradition and scale. The majority of her works are comprised of found and natural objects such as branches, grass, fabrics, trash, pipes, glass and wood.
Her 3-D structures are often reminiscent of the mountains surrounding her childhood and create disjointed narratives involving memory, and creating conversations between that which is natural and manmade.
As a Tennessee native, and having grown up on a family farm in the Appalachian Mountains, Russell has always had an appreciation for landscape and different scales in nature.
She studied sculpture at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Russell has exhibited in group and solo shows nationally and abroad and was selected as an Artist-in-Residence in Utica, N.Y. and Westport, Maine.
