UW College of Business Students Create Value for Companies

March 15, 2011

Companies can reap the benefits of hiring interns through the University of Wyoming's College of Business internship program.

"The College of Business offers opportunities for companies to hire extremely talented UW students with diverse experiences and business skills that are prepared to make meaningful contributions to their business," says Steve Farkas, internship program director.

The College of Business currently has internship relationships with hundreds of local and regional businesses from a variety of industries. UW students in the past have participated in internships ranging from corporate accounting to developing strategic marketing initiatives.

"The College of Business's faculty and staff do an incredible job preparing students to enter the work place, Farkas says. "Students understand the importance of creating value for companies they are selected to work for."

Summer internship positions are typically filled by the end of UW's spring semester, May 7.

Businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations are encouraged to participate. Exact dates, scope of work and rate of pay are established between the intern and employer.

"The internship program creates a win-win opportunity whereby companies hire our business students to benefit their organizations and in turn the students receive practical, working knowledge of the industries they have chosen to pursue for their careers," Farkas says.  "Our internship program creates a pipeline of talent between the College of Business and its industry partners."

Students pursuing internship opportunities may receive college credit upon project approval. As part of the college's internship credit program, students are required to prepare various reports about their experiences that are reviewed by the program director with copies of the final report provided to the sponsoring companies.

Companies wishing to hire an intern through the College of Business need to complete and return an employer application, provide a company brochure, description of the organization's activities and detailed job description.
