Campus Construction Update for Week of April 10

These are among the construction activities scheduled April 10-16 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

UW Tennis Facility (Armory Road across from Little League Complex, scheduled completion: This month) -- Due to the work to connect the two buildings, the existing facility will be closed April 8, 9, 12 and 15. Flooring is being installed in the team and public locker rooms.

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, fall 2011) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Ceiling installation and electrical work will continue in the classrooms being renovated. Ductwork installation may begin in the Physical Sciences Building.

War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot (Completion August 2011) -- Rough dirt grading continues, fencing and base will be reused for temporary parking area in the Summit View site. The parking lot and 20th Street from the stadium to Grand Avenue will be closed until August 15th. The lot south of War Memorial Fieldhouse is open; vehicles must enter from the west side.

ESCo (Energy Services Company) Project -- Long Energy Solutions, an Energy Services Company will not be doing any surveys this week. They will be back the week of April 18.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Carpet installation in the corridors and light fixture installation will continue on levels two through four. Electrical trim out will be ongoing on levels 5 through 8. Painting will continue on the main level. Power to Downey will be off on Saturday, April 9, for final connections of the switch gear.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- The Berry Center contractor has completed site cleanup. The ERC contractor may move to the site to prepare for the start of construction later this month. Fencing has been reconfigured to secure the site, and Lewis Street will remain closed during construction.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Concrete foundation wall work is nearly complete and excavation and underground utility work will proceed as weather permits. There will be frequent heavy construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Additional materials and equipment will continue to arrive onsite.
Wall framing and installation of mechanical electrical systems is under way on the second floor west. Concrete pours are scheduled on central ground floor and second floor east. Roof placement is ongoing on the east side as weather allows, roofing is scheduled It on the south lower level. Be aware that there will be construction traffic throughout the construction period. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site. The contractor may be extending work days.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- Rough grading has started on all six blocks. The entire area is fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around this area.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

College of Agriculture Building -- An electrical outage is scheduled for the original Ag Building this Saturday, April 9, from 7-9 a.m.

Physical Sciences Building -- Repairs to the chilled water line about 50 feet northeast of the Physical Sciences Building and south of the Geology Building continue. The work area is fenced, but use caution around moving equipment in the area.

Stimulus Project -- Abatement activities will begin April 11 in the Aven Nelson, Classroom and Arts & Sciences mechanical rooms. Insulation activities are complete in the Physical Sciences Building.

Corbett Building -- Handrail installation on the ADA ramp on the building's east side should be complete by April 15.

Arts and Sciences Building -- Painting in the second and third floor hallways will continue during the week.

15th Street -- Construction of curb, gutter and a new sidewalk on the east side of 15th Street from the north end of Greenhill Cemetery to Harney Street continues. Work will primarily be on the southeast corner of 15th and Harney. Traffic controls will be placed on 15th Street. Please be considerate of the workers in this area.

Aven Nelson Building -- Window replacement continues on the south side of the building. The west parking lot has been closed and fenced for construction staging throughout the project. The west entrance is closed, but will be available for emergency exit if needed; use other entrances to the building. Use caution around work areas.

Campus -- The house foundations at 9th and Grand, 11th between Grand and Ivinson, and the north side of Lewis between 11th and 12th will be filled and graded as weather permits. Parking will be affected and heavy equipment will be in use in these locations.

Snow Removal -- Snow and ice removal will occur as needed. Use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow.
