Campus Construction Update for Week of April 17

These are among the construction activities scheduled April 17-23 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

UW Tennis Facility (Armory Road across from Little League Complex, scheduled completion: This month) -- HVAC controls are being installed, and flooring is being installed in the team and public locker rooms.

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, fall 2011) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Gypsum board, painting, and ceiling grids will take place at AV columns in classrooms being renovated. Rough-ins for the fire alarm system and signage will continue in the Agriculture Building. Asbestos abatement work and possibly duct installation will start in the Physical Sciences Building.

War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot (Completion August 2011) -- The parking lot and 20th Street from the stadium to Grand Avenue will be closed until August 15. The lot south of War Memorial Fieldhouse is open; vehicles must enter from the west side. Irrigation and storm-water control work continues in Tailgate Park, the fencing and base will be reused in for temporary parking in the Summit View area.
Rough dirt grading continues, fencing and base will be reused for temporary parking area in the Summit View site.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) - Long Energy Services Company on April 20 will survey systems in mechanical rooms and conduct a few remaining lighting surveys on the following buildings: Old Main, Arts & Sciences, Bureau of Mines, Engineering, Agriculture, Education, Education Annex, Wyo Hall and the State Veterinary Laboratory. This will impact occupants for only a few minutes. The survey group will wear identifying badges.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Finish work is ongoing. The substantial completion inspection was done on the eighth floor and will be done on several other floors during the week. Carpet is being installed on the ground floor. Final painting and radiator covers are being installed on the lower four floors.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- The Berry Center contractor has completed site cleanup. The ERC contractor may move to the site to prepare for the start of construction later this month. Fencing has been reconfigured to secure the site, and Lewis Street will remain closed during construction.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Concrete foundation wall work is nearing completion. Excavation and underground utility work will proceed as weather permits. There will be frequent heavy construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Additional materials and equipment will continue to arrive onsite. Masonry work, wall framing, mechanical and electrical system installation, concrete pouring and roof placement continues. Precast wall panel erection will start early in the week and will increase truck traffic. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- Final grading for the two blocks north of Arrowhead and east of Crane Street will continue over the next few weeks. A six-block area is fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around this area.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Physical Sciences Building -- Repairs to the chilled water line about 50 feet northeast of the Physical Sciences Building and south of the Geology Building continue. The line is repaired; concrete will be poured and cleanup will occur throughout the rest of April as weather permits. Use caution around moving equipment in the area.

Stimulus Project -- Abatement activities will continue in the Aven Nelson, Classroom and Arts & Sciences mechanical rooms.

Arts and Sciences Building -- Painting will continue in the second and third floor hallways during the week.

Old Main -- Painting and carpet replacement are scheduled in rooms 108 and 110.

Corbett Building -- Handrail installation on the ADA ramp on the building's east side is complete.

15th Street -- Construction of curb, gutter and a new sidewalk on the east side of 15th Street from the north end of Greenhill Cemetery to Harney Street continues. Work will finish on the southeast corner of 15th and Harney and move to the northeast of Harney. Traffic controls will be placed on 15th Street. Please be considerate of the workers in this area.

Aven Nelson Building -- Window replacement continues on the south side of the building. The west parking lot has been closed and fenced for construction staging throughout the project. The west entrance is closed, but will be available for emergency exit if needed; use other entrances to the building. Use caution around work areas.

Campus -- The house foundations at 9th and Grand, 11th between Grand and Ivinson, and the north side of Lewis between 11th and 12th will be filled and graded as weather permits. Parking will be affected and heavy equipment will be in use in these locations.

Snow Removal -- Snow and ice removal will occur as needed. Use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow.
