Campus Construction Update for Week of May 15

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:

Willett Closure -- Willett Drive between 19th and 22nd streets will be closed May 22 for utility work on Willett. Access to the Centennial Complex and Athletic Facilities will be on Willett from the west.

Ivinson Building Parking Lot -- UW Trustees have approved abatement and deconstruction of the Ivinson Building. When the project begins May 23, 18 parking spaces on the south side plus 16 spaces on the northeast side will be closed. Two Americans with Disabilities Act parking sites will be moved to the Hoyt Hall loop. An additional 17 spaces on the south side will be closed starting July 25.

Recreation Field Closure -- The recreation fields at 22nd and Armory streets will be closed to the public until Aug. 1 for field improvements and lighting.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, fall 2011) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Asbestos abatement in the Physical Sciences Building will continue on the third floor south and move to the fourth floor later in the week. Mechanical work continues on the third and fourth floors. At the School of Pharmacy, ceiling tile is being removed and asbestos abatement will start on the third floor. Fire alarm installation continues in the Agriculture and Animal Science buildings. Classroom work continues on all rooms in the contract.

War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot (Completion August 2011) -- The parking lot and 20th Street from the stadium to Grand Avenue will be closed until August 15. Irrigation and storm-water control work continues in Tailgate Park, the fencing and base will be reused for temporary parking in the Summit View area.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Concrete foundation wall work is nearing completion and excavation and underground utility work including off site utility work is proceeding, so watch for this work outside the contained construction area.  Construction traffic will deliver materials throughout the week. Additional materials and equipment will continue to arrive onsite for continuing masonry work, placement of floor slabs and interior construction. There may be masonry work ongoing for walls around the building. Construction of interior wall framing and installation of mechanical/electrical systems is under way on the first and second floor west. Roofing and precast wall panels will continue. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- Final grading for the two blocks north of Arrowhead and east of Crane is complete.  Part of the six-block fencing has been removed along Crane and Arrowhead, but still remains along 22nd and Willett, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will still need to go around this area.

Wyoming Hall -- Painting is scheduled on the north wing of the first floor.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- The project's contractor will mobilize to begin construction. The construction office is set up on site. Fencing will be reconfigured to secure the site and storage area. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center Landscaping -- Landscaping work will begin Monday with topsoil preparation of topsoil and sprinkler system installation. Planting of landscaping stock and completion of the hardscape will follow.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Company will not be on campus until May 23.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Window replacement will continue in the sleeping rooms on the sixth floor. The contractor is completing punch list items.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Indoor Practice Facility -- Insulation and sealing of the clearstory is scheduled, the field will be inaccessible for the week.

Geology Building -- Re-roofing and abatement of shingles will begin. Staging and fall-protection scaffold will be on north and south sides, use the west entrance of Earth Sciences Building. Prexy's Pasture north sidewalk and northwest campus service drive will be used for vehicular access and deliveries. Please use caution around equipment.

Education Building -- Re-roofing project will begin with staging on the southwest side. Prexy's Pasture north sidewalk and northwest campus service drive will be used for vehicular access and deliveries. Please use caution around equipment.

Engineering Building -- Re-roofing project will begin with staging on the west side of Petroleum Engineering. Prexy's Pasture north sidewalk and northwest campus service drive will be used for vehicular access and deliveries. Please use caution around equipment.

Service Building -- Re-roofing project will begin with staging on the north side of Stores Warehouse. Please use caution around equipment.

Crane/Hill Lot -- Work to construct new ADA parking spaces, curb ramps and sidewalks continues. Work areas will be west of the Corbett Building and south of the Fine Arts Center. Traffic control and barricades have been placed in these areas. The work is scheduled to be completed the week of May 23, weather permitting.

Arts & Sciences Building -- Painting is complete in the northwest and southwest stairways.

Merica Hall -- Power washing the south side of the building will begin Monday and will then move to the building's west side.  Foot traffic and south entrance will be blocked off with barricades, please go around and use the north entrance to the building.

Campus -- Campus parking lot striping will begin this week starting with the east parking and bus lots. Barricades and traffic cones will be used in the striping areas. Please use caution in these areas.

Stimulus Project -- Abatement activities continue in the mechanical rooms of Engineering, Geology and Agriculture buildings. Insulation and painting is occurring in the Aven Nelson, Classroom and Arts & Sciences mechanical rooms.

Aven Nelson Building -- Window replacement continues on the south side of the building. The west parking lot has been closed and fenced for construction staging throughout the project. The west entrance is closed, but will be available for emergency exit if needed; use other entrances to the building. Use caution around work areas.

Hoyt Hall -- Work on the west side of Hoyt Hall to build an ADA ramp from the sidewalk north toward the Student Health building is complete.

Physical Sciences Building -- Repairs to the chilled water line northeast of the Physical Sciences Building and south of the Geology Building are complete. Sod and landscaping will be completed when sod is available.

Campus -- Activation of irrigation sprinkler systems across campus is ongoing. Please use caution around potential icy areas on sidewalks that result from overspray.

Campus -- The house foundation at 9th and Grand will be filled and graded as weather permits. Please use caution to avoid heavy equipment.

Snow Removal -- Snow and ice removal will occur as needed. Use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow.
