Two University of Wyoming riders earned ribbons last week at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championship Show.

Competing at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., Katie French (Plymouth, Minn.) and Katie Hurrell (Golden, Colo.) each placed in the top 10 of their respective divisions at the season-ending event that brings together the top riders from nearly 380 teams across the United States and Canada.

"When we got here, they both looked at me and said, ‘We just want to have fun and enjoy it,' and that's what they did," says UW Coach Kari Randle-Bright. "I'm just very excited and very happy for them."

In her second trip to nationals, French placed fifth out of 16 riders in beginner walk-trot. Hurrell finished ninth in open flat in her first appearance at the IHSA's marquee event.

This was the fourth time in five seasons that UW has been represented at nationals.
